Mukdahan Province
             The newest province of the Northeast is Mukdahan, which came into being in Suptember, 1982, Mukdahan is located on the bank of the Mae Khong River opposite Suwannakhet in Laos, 642 kilometers from Bangkok. Mukdahan is famous for its most beautiful sceneries along the Mae Khong River. The sceneries of Mukdahan town, Mae Khong River and Suwannakhet can be viewed from the top of Phu Manorom which is located in the south around 3 kms. from Mukdahan municipality.

Places of Interest

Luang Pho Yai a Buddha image in the gesture of giving the First Sermon seated on a hilltop within the precincts of Wat Phu Dan Tae (Wat Phuttho Thammatharo). The Wat is accessible by the Highway 212, a distance of 33 km. from the province via Amphoe Nikhom Kham Soi. The hilltop Luang Pho Yai will come into sight on the right.

Phu Mu Forest Park located on the Highway 212 with a turn between km. 128-129, Phu Mu is a low hill topped with a large plateau in Amphoe Nikhom Kham Soi. The park is 353 meters above the sea level and covers an area of about 4 square km. It was announced a park area in 1980. Phu Mu was once home of wild boars but now is a location from where a wide view of Mukdahan can be appreciated.

Mukdahan National Park with an office situated on Mukdahan-Don Tan route with a right turn between kms. 14-15, the park is established in December 1984 and covers a total area of some 52 square km. including Phu Mano, Phu Chom Nang, Phu Chom Si, Phu Mak Yang, Phu Rang, Phu Kham Mak Mi, Phu Tham Phra, Phu Phu Thoep, Phu Nang Hong, and Phu Lak Se. Most of the area is covered with Dipterocarps Forests and Mixed Deciduous Forests.
